2011 Mercury 115 Outboard Control wont move to forward after being in reverse

I have a 2011 Nitro with a merc 115 on it. Once I shift it into reverse, it wont go into forward most of the time. When I pull up on the red lever, if just wont move into forward. If I go into reverse 5 or 10 times, one of those I will be able to get it into forward. Once I am in forward, I can go from forward to neutral to forward again without issue over and over. It operates smoothly once in forward or reverse and the throttle doesn't stick anywhere.

What control have you got? Maybe pics will help ID it. Makes me wonder if there isn't something binding (or a missing spring, broken bushing, etc.) inside the control.

Or maybe an internal kink in the shift control cable that only "catches" when shifted to reverse? Maybe try swapping shift and throttle cables to see if the problem goes away (or moves to something like a "sticky" throttle at perhaps 1/3 or 1/2 throttle?)
