1986 Mercury Lower Unit Troubles

I recently change the impeller on my lower unit. However, I had some trouble reinstalling my lower unit. I tried installing it in forward/reverse/and neutral with both my lower unit and my gear shift in the same gear. I got my lower unit up in neutral, but when shifted gears, the gears seemed to be backwards. I could be wrong with the way my propeller is supposed to spin. I have a 1986 Mercury 115hp.

In forward, the prop will ratchet when turned clockwise. If the gears are reversed, where the prop ratchets CW in reverse, you will need to drop the gearcase, and turn the shift shaft CCW@ until she "clicks" into neutral. Now reinstall the gearcase, and the gears should be correct.

Thanks for the help, when shifted in forward the prop ratchets clockwise so it should be okay.
