Understanding outbd motor timing steps

New here in this forum. I was reading a post from 2007 by Don S. And was a great explanation why link and sync timing is a 2 step process on mercury outboards. If someone could post this again it was very enlightening. The title of the post was "need help understanding primary pickup timing adjustment" Thanks

Wasn't my motor? It was a post about someone else like I said above. Wasn't aware lawnmowers have a link and sync. Personally I'm glad they dont.

Roscoe, you're awesome. You found it. Even with a service manual it's good to see the logic behind a link and sync setup for those who may not understand it. Every engine is different so a service manual is a must either way. This is just a good overview.
