Hello, I'm new to outboards, and I just got a 1999 Mercury 150 XR6 on a 2000 Basscat Sabre. It's been sitting for several years, so I'm trying to get it up and running. I'm confused because as far as I can tell, the XR6 is carbureted. This engine is definitely fuel injected. It has the big EFI module right on the front of the motor. The serial number is OG945389. From a serial number lookup tool I did, this came back as an XR6. Does anyone know what's going on with this motor?

See if there is a serial # on the block anywhere. I believe there was a 99 150 efi. You may have a replaced powerhead.

Sorry for the late reply. I took the boat to a mechanic to look it over. He thought that the powerhead was from an older (maybe mid 90's). He also thought that the motor is a 200 instead of a 150 due to to the 200 EFI label on the EFI module.

Outboard serial number: OG945389
EFI (part?) Number : 842003A 8

you might look around on tha block half for a letter code... should be AA, BB, CC, FF etc... sometimes its there and sometimes not.

its good indicator but not necessarily a fact..... look for another serial number on tha block... may be on whats called a welsh plug.. it looks like a freeze plug, on top/rear (aft of flywheel) of tha block.. also could be stamped on tha block half "flange" on port side.....
