Bought a used boat today that had a 25 hp Mercury. 1997 on it.
Motor started fine but it did not pee at first.Just when I started to turn the motor off it started to pee. I thought all was good and then it just stopped.
A few seconds later it started again. I then turned the motor off. I was testing in my driveway had motor on muffs.I don't, want to burn up a motor I just got.
Does this motor have a thermostat? I have never seen a motor start and stop peeing like that.

Normal the thermostat controls the pee stream. It should settle into a steady stream after a couple cycles. If it doesn't check to make sure the thermostat is the correct one. A 120 deg is correct not 140

Thanks flyingscott for the quick response. I can now sleep a lot easier.

You are welcome. One thing change your waterpump every 2 years. And if you don't know when the last time it was changed put a new one in. The mercosil blocks do not take well to overheating and are expensive to rebuild.
