Spec says 650+/-50, so yes.... Just remember, that's not a 'shop tacho', and it no more than an indication. For checking idle and WOT you should be using a calibrated tacho.

Very true on calibration, I was concerned abut it running so high at idle when I got it there would be no way to put it in gear. When I first start it I have to warm it up a little with the throttle but she holds good and doesn't die, rebuilding the fuel pump really did the trick.. and splicing into the regulator was a fantastic idea. Thanks again for all your help.

Hopefully once you get that new shift cable in you can go fishing and enjoy the fruits of your labour. :D :D

An outboard mechanic would clean the bearing with say laquer thinner.---He would then intall those needles with grease from the bottom-------Never a problem doing it that way.

Has anyone shimmed a 2004 mercury 150 XL SWB OT961925 outboard lower unit Pinion gear.
I placed the lower bearing shim into the driveshaft housing bore and placed the lower bearing race into housing gear and retainer.. But all that did was to get excessive play from the shaft since the shim is pushing up on the bearing cup and not the bearing.
