Hey everyone I got a 79 Mercury 115 and when I bought the boat the guy told me he did a oil change on the lower leg. My question is where should the oil level be. And what kind of oil should be in it. I took out the upper plug and could not see anything. There is no sight gauge that I can find either. Thanks for any advice

For that engine, 90 weight Marine gear oil. Mercury's filling procedure(owner and service manuals) was to fill from the bottom until the oil appeared at vent hole. Then let one ounce or so to drain out of bottom, to allow for expansion when the oil warms up. Install drain and vent screws with new gaskets. Most people just fill till it comes out, install upper screw then remove oil feed from drain and install drain screw.

Ok this should be done with the engine level correct. As if it was in the water running type of thing
