I found a great deal on a 2006 40 hp mercury 4 stroke. It does not have controls ... just the motor with battery cables. Can anybody tell me what type of controls and wiring from motor to controls I will need? I've done a little research but not enough info to make any kind of decision. If I redo my console on my old junky pontoon I will prefer a binnacle mount.

Yes -- you need the control box (throttle/shift) for your engine, the throttle and control cables that run from the control box to the engine and of course, the electrical harness that runs from the control box to the engine. All of them are available from Mercury. The BOAT MOTOR PARTS box at the top of this page takes you to the IBoats parts section. Control some if not all the parts may be available there.
