Hi,

I have a 1999 mercury 4 hp 4 stroke outboard Serial #0R004061 that I need a carb for. I've had it for several years and although I tried to find one a few years back the new ones were NLA and the engine was too new to find used one. Does anyone know if I can use a carb from a different year or hp, like a 5hp? Thanks

What is the part # for your carb?
Several were used, 2 are listed as NLA, several others are available.

Can't repair the one you have?

Rarely does a carb need to be replaced, what happened to yours.

It's the top one, NLA. I bought the motor used quite a few years back without noticing that the black plastic throttle lever which connects to the throttle linkage bar to the carb was cracked in half and glued together. Nothing seems to bond that oily black plastic. I even took it to a marine mechanic and spent $90.00 for him to try and fix it. The problem is that it's an integral part of the carb and it's a fairly complex little piece of plastic. In the end I was told my only hope was to find a used one or a new one somewhere. I never had any luck finding one online last time I tried, I sent off a few e-mails today and maybe one will come back positive. Other than that maybe someone knows whether or not a carb from a different year will work? Thanks

Have you compared your carb, to some of the other carb part numbers listed for that motor?

Here is one of the T2 versions. Is the plastic part the same? Is the carb the same, just a newer version (2).?

Pretty sure that your motor was made by Tohatsu, so maybe this is the carb you need.

I guess if all else fails, I would call the Mercury Marine factory customer service number.

Thanks roscoe,

That used one on ebay looks the same. Yeah the local marine supply told me it may have been made by Tohatsu and that it was assembled in the UK or something. I'll try comparing the part numbers, that's a great suggestion. Thanks again.

Thanks roscoe,

I contacted mercury and customer service and the guy wasn't positive but he was pretty sure that the 3303-803819T2 carb would work. So I'm trying that one.

Well I just received the used 3303-803819T2 carb which I bought off of e-bay and it fits. It's slightly different than the original, for one the idle adjustment screw hole is filled with a brass plug. The only other difference is that there are 2 brass nipples located on top which appear to be there for venting excess fuel or something. Anyway, I've got it rigged up in a barrel and so far it starts and runs fine. I tried everywhere for a used carb which was a perfect match, but I think that if I hadn't tried this the motor would have sat for another 5 or 6 years.
