This 25 hp Mariner keeps overheating. We have had it professionally repaired three times. I am done with it and will sell it for parts. Can I switch to a Mercury with no problems? I have a Quicksilver throttle. Is it a very difficult thing to disconnect this piece of junk Mariner and replace it with a Mercury? Need to get on the water. Thanks you all.

Depending on the model/serial #'s, many Mercury/Mariners are the same motor just different badges. Sort of like Chevy/GMC pickups. Same truck, different trim and colors.

Overheating can be figured out and repaired IF a guy knows enough to look carefully to find the true cause. Too many guys assume and do not look well enough.

A leaking gasket in either of a couple places can and will cause overheating at high throttle settings yet still seem fine at idle or only small throttle.

Need to know a lot more about your motor before hand so I don't make the same assumptions.

You have a yamaha built mariner might be tough to make that change. Agree completely with charlieB. That motor is probably a better motor than a mercury.
