1983 Mercury 9.8 Thunderbolt kill switch question

I'm installing a universal "man overboard" kill switch in place of the factory push button kill switch. The switch works with both magneto setups and "ignition" setups. Exposing my ignorance here but I've been trying to determine which my pull-start 9.8 has? Are all pull start outboards magneto type? My seloc manual describes the Thunderbolt IV ignition system as having permanent magnets installed in out rim of the flywheel. Does this make it a "magneto" system? I attempted to connect the wires from the factory kill switch to the "ignition" terminals on the new switch but couldn't get it started. Wanted to check with y'all before hiking up to "magneto" terminals and trying that for fear that I'd mess something up. Thanks!

Your motor is a ground to kill motor.

Thanks Scott, sorry for being a newbie, but does this mean I can use this switch by hooking to the magneto terminals or must I purchase another type of switch? Thanks for the help.
