Mercury 850 Where Should The Timing Marks Be?

Good Evening All, I've been having issues with getting my 1974 Mercury 850 to idle. I have another thread about that as I work through the possibilities. But now I have another question. I have no timing mark tape on my flywheel. I only have the decal on the shroud. When I did a link and sync I assumed the 3 vertical dots on the flywheel were representing TDC and I should time it off of those dots. Is this correct or am I on the wrong path and did I time this thing incorrectly? Thanks for any help.

Think I just found my answer. Went thru all my other flywheels and the TDC decal shows over an inch away from the 3 dots. Guess my timing was way off and hopefully that fixes my idle problem as well.
