Mercury 400 water pump

Currently trying to get the water pump cover off, I made a tool to insert and pull the cover off and the cover will not turn not even with a cheater on the handle. My question is how could this cover get so tight? It isn't a left handed thread is it? Just wanted to check before I break something.

Pretty sure that's normal thread. I've sacrificed a few covers over the years - of course I had a new replacement in hand before I took that step, though. I believe they're still available.

Yeah it came off just had to come up with an extension to the tool to clear the drive shaft and put the impact on it, didn't even damage the cover.
