Mercury 150 xr4 motor clicking after it stopped running at an idel

My 1998 150 xr4 mercury black max cut out while at idel and immediately made a clicking noise or knocking sound for about 6 to 8 clicks. I restarted the engine and again at idel it died and made the clicking noise from the engine. This never happened until l had hired another to replace some wiring and a module that shorted out and caused a few wires to become burnt. Also had the plugs replaced. This repair and spark plugs replaced just was done this Monday. I was advised not to run the boat for a few hours so the silicone on the module could set up. I did as instructed. When l ran the boat it ran fine. When coming back to dock l put it in idel and this is when it frist cut out followed by the knocking. Do not know if this is related. But before the short the boat ideled fine and even if it did cut out, it did not make a clicking noise as mentioned. Thank you for any help.
