1978 mercury 90 hp drive issues

i changed my impeller an now i have no reverse any help would be great

You removed the lower unit with control box in nuetral, correct ?----------So when you were not looking the lower unit jumped into forward.--------------So start over making sure lower unit is in nuetral when assembling.-------------Or look up top for more info on this common mistake.

yes i had it in nuetral. is there a surten spot for tha little gear on tha lower unit? or just make sure that it spins freely? talken bout tha prop spinning freely

Cam in the LU has 3 detents relatively close to each other as far as degrees of rotation of the shaft are concerned and N is in the middle. Yes N is the free spin spot.
