94 merc 90 voltage regulator

Hello all my friend has a 94 merc 90 we noticed the regulator next to the starter motor was cooked so he fitted a new reg and it fried aswell , i was thinking it could be an over voltage from a faulty stator has anyone on here had the same trouble?thanks Gordon.

Get a manual....sell/rent online time with Seloc on here under "Boat Parts and Accessories" above. In there you will find the resistance checks to answer your question. However, the problem may be down wind.....the load....shorted battery or something else shorted. These rectifier/regulators are designed to "maintain" a good quality battery, not charge a dead one or put out full rated current indefinitely. A trip to wally world and a battery load check would surely be in order.
