G'day I have an old (unsure of year) Mercury Blueband Thunderbolt 500 2 stroke 4 Cylinder. Serial 8001049 A.

I've been to the dealers and they can sell me parts but cant tell me definitively what year it is.

After changing the impeller, I now get a stream of water come from a little hole on the side of the lowest cylinder.

Thanks Mack

Okaye......SWAG (Scientific Wildassed guess) with the old pump you didn't have adequate water pressure to punch out the thin casting material where salt water had been corroding your internal water passages. Since water pressure seldom gets over 12 psig, if that on some engines, I'd grind down to bare alum (for a good grip) and give the hole a good dose of JB weld. If it's really thin and large, glue a patch over it with JB weld and wait for your next one.

Gee, how about a picture of where the water leaks? Likely it is where the cylinderhead water jacket cover meats the block, but who knows?

G'day Guys, Thanks for the replies.

Texasmark The hole seems to be perfectly round around 4mm wide, it doesn't look like a crack, to me it looks like its suppose to be there.

64osby I did think it was a 1972, just left the dealers again and they're telling me early 80's, after searching google pics online Im now thinking late 60's.

Chris1956 I finally got some pics up, they're not the best pics to show you the hole either, don't have a camera phone and my camera wont fit in there.

Cheers Mack

Corrosion. From what I see you ought to be looking for a new block. like patching a rusted out gas tank. Fix one leak then another then another...........

Those pictures look to be part of the block. If so, I also think it is corrosion. Stick a drop of caulk in the hole.
