Hi,,
I am new to writing on tis forum, but have gained a lot of knowledge from reading all of your posts.
So now I am in a quandary with my 1984 sea ray Seville, mercruiser 3.0l .
It had some problems last year with taking off when I punched it, as pulling up a skier.
So, the local, well known mechanic said it was a certain part in the carb that needed replacing and he did such and it doesn't have that problem anymore.
However, what it does do now, is after warming up, going fast for maybe 20 or 30 minutes, it starts to "lag or drag" eventually sputtering out and dying. It can usually be restarted, but then only sputters along in low rpm's. If you try to speed up much at all it will die again.
I changed the plugs, emptied the old stale gas and filled with premium non ethanol, also added some seafoam, cleaned the points, and changed the fuel filter.
Problem still exists. also when I put the motor to the up position last night I noticed that the lights on all the gauges dimmed considerably and I believe the engine also dies, but then was able to be restarted.
It is a fairly new battery and the connections are tight.
Any thoughts?
Thanks ahead of time
