hi just wondering if you can tell the year of a mercruiser 165 inline 6 by the serial #

Can't give you an exact year as the serial number is too old to be in a computer look up system but the Merc serial number charts online give "year ranges" (3774865 - 4584834) and your number is in-between 1974 - 1977. My guess would be late 1975 to early 1976.
