Just finished replacing my bellows, gimbal bearing and shift cable. I got everything done and running thanks to this form and a manual . One problem I noticed this long tube on the bench and the same one ( old one in the bilge ) yikes !!! I have searched and can not find out where this goes unfortunately the only thing I didn't take pictures of prior to taking things apart was shift linkage / cable .. Any thoughts ?? Thanks

That looks like the plastic bushing that protects the shift cable from chafing where it goes through the transom.
Mine from my MC-1 drive looks similar but mine is only an inch long.
Some people don't bother to install them.
They get installed from the inside of the boat which is why you found the old one in your bilge.
