2002 bayliner 1750 with 1994 mercruiser 3.0 engine and 2002 alpha one gen 2 out drive. New fuel in entire tank and I always use marine stabil

Hi group,

I took my boat out today and for 2.5-3 hours it was flawless. It did great in bigger wakes and the glass smooth parts of Lake Washington just outside of Seattle.

Knowing I was putting the boat away for a week or two I decided to get a little wild and have fun with a couple long sweeping turns and super tight hairpin turns as well. After about 3 minutes of this fun..... Engine dies.

Restart it and it fires right up without delay. Let it idle for 30 seconds and put it in forward. Dies.

Redo this process 10 or so times and also check engine box and nothing looks immediately abnormal.

After awhile I'm able to fire it up and slowly get back up to full speed and works fine then without issue (but also no aggressive turns or acceleration)

This is the third consecutive boat trip it's done fantastic and then poops out like it says above.

Ideas?

No ideas or help saying don't have fun with circles!!!

What happen to the original 2002 3.0l engine, carburetor and manifold the carb bolts to? < are you using the 94 or 02 carb and manifold?

Nope, no more having fun for you mister.:D Only I can get away with claiming Fun-Times you know, lol.:joyous:

On a more serious note, I can't seem to find the needed information online, but Mercruiser did put out a service bulletin saying some of their customers were having the same problems as you're describing with their 3.0l engines dying.

I recall it saying due to the location of the main jet inside the carburetors float bowl, this engine has an tendency to die while in a really tight turn. The fuel in the float bowl is forced to the opposite side of the main carburetor jet killing the engine like you experienced.

Mercruiser developed a carburetor wedge plate to help offset the fuel from being removed from the jet in tight turns.

The wedge kit part number from Merc is 879288T62. Search the part number online including EBay for best prices as it's in the $100.00 + or - range.

Here's the only info I could find online that has some basic info. http://outboardparts1.com/merc/13AG21/156.pdf
CARBURETOR WEDGE KIT: 879288T62 Helps eliminate carburetor lean out condition in extremely hard right turns. Fits MCM 3.0L engines (1998 and newer)
Hope this helps, good luck.
