I have a 92 Caravelle 1750 BR - with a 3.0L/LX Mercruiser engine. and it ran fine the first few times I took it out on the lake. Recently I took it out onto a bigger lake here in Minnesota, and I was driving along when I noticed the power steering stopped working and i was at 11-12 volts instead of the regular 14 volts I normally run at.
When I got to the dock I checked and sure enough the belt had fallen off of the ALT which meant it wasn't spinning the power steering pump.
This happened several more times when i brought it to the next lake. If i look in the boat it looks like there is a lot of rubber dust from a belt getting worn down.
The picture below is a close of of the harmonic balancer, it shows where the two metal parts meet the rubber part. they look pretty far off to me. Is this causing my issues?
If so has anyone had bad luck with the one people are selling on ebay for $126.00? I would greatly like to save $175 and not buy OEM. But i understand OEM can mean quality as well.
