Hello,

I have a 4 cyl Mercruiser 153 CID with 2 single barrel Carter RBS Carbs (1969)

I cleaned the carbs out they were pretty dirty. I can see fuel spray in when I press on the throttle.

It starts and idles fine. If I work the throttle back and forth quickly I can get the RPM's up but that takes a bit.

I am assuming that I don't have the mixture set right but I don't know.

Any ideas?

Try a rebuild. They are cheap to get. It sounds like the accelerator pump is not working it's best.

The rebuld kits are about 50 each X 2 Ugh.

The accelerator pumps are working great though. Couldn't get any more gas to come out the jet.

I'd definitely be checking the timing. Make sure your advance weights are free in the distributor.
