:welcome: to iboats

The 4 beeps may actually be two 2 beeps back to back. There are several alarms which can cause the issue, one of the most common is the seawater pump pressure switch, but that just sounds 2 of the beeps. Need your engine serial number to get further into it.

How are the gauges looking?

Hi there, welcome to iboats!:)

When you turn the key off the alarm still sounds? Or turn engine off and turn key back on it still sounds? Are the batteries in healthy condition? Weak 12 volt power will sound the horn as well as a number of other things.

As mentioned, a serial number and a engine year could be more helpful.

Hi Guys Thanks - Serial OM689829 - Boat is a 2004 so assume engine to be round that age running Alpha1 Gen 2 leg OM496305 - Was a definite 4 short blasts then delay 4 short blasts repeating alarm all gauges fine - interestingly this was the first trip out after new raw impeller if this helps, oil ok, water flow great compared to previous impeller - drive not hot to touch (checked at time of alarm) Engine had been running for 40 minuets or so immediately alarm sounded I went to idle and checked gauges all ok shut engine down alarm still sounding key on or key off had to isolate batteries to stop. once re energized no alarm and did not return. Puzzled :)

Sorry for all the questions but just want to be sure. So you were cruising at speed when the alarm sounded? or when you came down to idle? Does the engine idle normal/smooth @ 600 RPM?

Shut engine down alarm still sounding key on or key off. had to isolate batteries to stop. once re energized no alarm and did not return. Puzzled :)
The engine alarm should not be sounding when the ignition key is turned off.....If it really continued with the key off then there may be a intermittent problem with the main power relay located on top of the engine near the ECM as it could sound the horn and turning off the battery switch would kill all power to the relay possibly resetting it internally.

What model boat do you have? Is there any other accessories on the boat that utilizes a horn that you could of thought was the engine alarm. Depth finder, carbon monoxide detector, etc..

Hi its a bayliner 212 - was very low speed, 6 knots river - engine smooth and runs fine idle and onto plain - so there is no 4 bleep alarm for this model ? - Im running HDS 10 sounder with structure scan, this goes off when keyswich turned off so rules this out, definitely continued after key off only silenced with battery off, ! also carbon monoxide standard fitment - had not given that a thought and have no idea what that sounds like ! I will need to check this later. Will also check main power relay as above if monoxide alarm is not the issue.

Ok so checking the boat when i got home you guys are genius and right on the money- the carbon monoxide alarm is the culprit - interesting thing is that a bit of research shows this is a standard alarm for carbon monoxide systems just as smoke detectors chirp 3 times carbon monoxide chirp 4 times so well worth knowing - and feeling dumb we were blissfully unaware what the alarm was Thanks guys a stark reminder how easy we can get into trouble not knowing our boats and lucky no one was in the cabin :)
