This spring i have discovered that my century 5 meter has a poorly made foam core hull and all the wood is rotten. I had a great running 224ci mercruiser 488. I dont want to put a ton of time into a restore. I was offered a good boat that isnt rotten with a 888 its problem is that the outdrive is gone. It was taken to a shop then the shop closed. I understand that the 888 should be a 1.5 ratio and my 488 is a 1.84. It is a light boat how bad will it be to run a steeper pitch on the 888 with the alhpa drive from the 488? The hp rating is the same, and 4.3s are making more than the old 888 with a 1.81 drives. The drive bolts up to it just fine. The 488 boat could turn a 22 stainless to 4600.

I am parting out my 5 meter boat, and I am also curious If 1100 is too little to sell a a complete running 470 with 4bbl 4 inch exch and alternator. I understand the 4 bbl and ex mani are made from unubtainium.

If you can find a prop that will be big enough to hold the 888 to 4200 rpm, than no problem.... But will will probably need to go to a Laser II or a Revolution 4 to get a pitch high enough (I'd say you may need to go to 23" or 25")....
