Replaced the plugs, cap and, rotor today.
I have been doing the maintenance every other year.
And I have noticed the last few times that the plugs look great but the cap and rotor show much more wear.
This year the center contact (on the cap) for the rotor was almost worn away.
I put on ~80 hrs a year.

Anyone else notice this pattern?

I use the Echlin line of tuneup parts from NAPA in my '82 Grady. They have been solid for me.

I think its the quality of parts. Have checked my 95 Rinker every few years and never found any signs that anything needed replaced. Two years ago I replaced everything, but again everything looked just fine, plugs and all. Figure this year I'll check and hope I don't see the same things your seeing

Is there excessive play in the distributor shaft? Side to side , up and down

Total agreement with comments above. Also consider that a distributor cap that is not seated correctly will exhibit premature wear.
I recall mine "put up a fight" when it was changed out.
