Title pretty much says it all.

I have a 1974 Mercruiser 225 that needs a new distributor. The only one is broken (physically broken) and is beyond repair/rebuild.

I would like to replace the dizzy, coil and wires to something a little newer.

On a previous motor, I used a MSD setup, but one is not available for this 302.

I know there is Mallory, Pertronix, Prestolite, Etc. However, I don't know much about any of these brands.

Any suggestions, pros/cons/etc.

This is to be used on a fishing boat. Nothing that needs high performance. Just good 'ol reliable.

Thank you in advance!

There all good brands. Finding any oem parts for ford motors will be tough.

Davis unified (DUI) is easy to install and has a such a hot spark that you use larger plug gaps. It's the best simplest way. You can get them many places, just specify marine because it is externally spark proof. The only spark with them is in the combustion chamber.
