Does anyone know the torque speces for a L6 165 hp (250 C.I.D.)? I looked around but haven't found them yet.

I guess I need the spec for the engine couple also, assuming there is one.

Ayuh,..... I use my calibrated elbow, 'n torque to "Good, 'n Tight",.....

As far as I can remember, both the flywheel, 'n couple go onto the crankshaft studs, together,.....

your correct now that I think about it, they both bolt onto the studs in the crankshaft. Thanks I figured the spec might be something like that!

Get a manual and all the specs will be in there. Always use a torque wrench for things like this unless you enjoy pulling the engine to do it correctly later!

Ayuh,.... I think you'll find those nuts are hidden by the coupler, 'n only an end-wrench will fit,..... ;)

per service manual #2
coupling to flywheel bolts are 7/16-20, torque is 60 ft/lbs.
ya need mercruiser torque wrench adapter c-91-54638.

this info would be for mid 70's L6

don't know what the special tool is, but a crows foot wrench comes to my mind.

or

good n tight, guess i'd try to torque it proper if i could though.

item 22 is the tool
maybe a crows foot wrench won't work. that looks pretty special.....

Ayuh,.... Sorta an extended angled crows foot,....

Something like this, 'n a wobbly, but then ya gotta do the mathamagics to figure the off-set to torque applied,...

There's also extended versions of those,...

But again, I torque to Good, 'n Tight, with a 12 point box-end wrench, then call it a day,...

Thanks for the info, got it back together this morning. I would have never thought of the crows foot, worked like a charm!
