3.7 HP rating

Hi, just curious but were all 3.7 liter mercruiser HP ratings done at the fly wheel or prop. I believe that at some point in the 80's the rating might have changed from the flywheel to the prop. If so, would an early model 470's HP be different from a '89 170 hp

Nope,.... Same motor, Same horsepower,....

The '470' had 3 main variants...

'Standard' manifold and 2 bbl carb - 165 to 170hp
'Modified' manifold and 2 bbl carb - 185hp
'Modified' manifold and 4 bbl carb - 188 to 190hp

Chris, didn't know about the second configuration...which manifold is modified, and is it a plug 'n play, or are there a ton of parts that need swapped (like with the 4bbl)?

It includes the exhaust manifold and camshaft, so it would require an engine strip...
