Hello. I have the Mercruiser 470. I was replacing the front cam seal due to the antifreeze leaking out the weep hole.
Got it all apart and am waiting on the new seals. Question is which way do they go in. The manual isnt too specific and eveything i read seems to say that the rubber open ended side of the seal with the spring in it faces away from the motor. The other side of the seal has a metal rim.
I just want to be sure because if thats the case the seals that were in it were backwatds. Ill post a picture of the old seal still in the cam cover. You are looking at the cover from the front. The seals can only go in one way due to the lip inside.
