I own a 2000 Cobalt 262 and am trying to figure out how to change the impeller myself. I have a Mercruiser 7.4L EFI Engine Serial # OL682158. I would appreciate it if someone could describe how to do this on my own. I am pretty handy and think I can do it if I just had some guidance. Also, if anyone has the part #, that would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance for your input!

You've got a bravo drive so this link will be the service manual you'll want to refer to:
http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/manuals/mercruiser28.html#/0

If you do a little googling (Merc bravo water pump replacement) you'll find some videos/instructions/part numbers of which depending on how much access you have to the water pump will dictate what exactly you may need to do for replacement.

Access is the key with the Bravo impeller like Mark pointed out. I have done my own a couple times. It is not that hard but you have to figure out how to get to it.

You'll want to replace the impeller & housing as most likely the plastic housing will have some scoring.

Your OEM impeller kit part number is 46-807151A14, or the aftermarket part number from iboats is 18-3150. http://www.iboats.com/Search/dm/?ke...3773279&search_submit.x=17&search_submit.y=15

Here's where I found the part number... See item number 2, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...5.png&inbr=2705&bnbr=170&bdesc=SEA+WATER+PUMP

And here's your parts catalog. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectDocs.asp?doc_nbr=809994+98

Good luck.:)

Buying the complete kit with housing as FT mentioned would be good, that way if the housing is scored you will have it. I've had plastic housings on both my motors for years and they don't show any signs of scoring so far. Replace the impeller every two years

and :welcome: to iboats
