Hi Folks,

Happy turkey day to all of you south of the Canadian border!

1987 5.7 Mercruiser / with an OEM 140F thermostat. Would there be any benefit to changing it to 160F?

Thanks!

You're in fresh water, I'd use 160. Reason being is that engines run more efficiently when slightly warmer. I would continue to recommend 143 in salt though, and the reason for that is at the higher temperatures salt disassociates into acid, and that's not going to do any of the parts that acid comes into contact with any good. :D
