I'm removing both 305 from of my 83 Searay 270 and replacing them with re-manufactured 96 5.7 crate motors. The salesman told me I needed to stay with the 12 3/4 inch flywheels because the 14 inch might have clearance problems. So they installed the 12 3/4 inch flywheels before they shipped the motors. Now the problem is the 12 3/4 inch flywheel uses a starter with a straight bolt pattern and the 14 inch flywheel uses a starter with an offset bolt pattern. My 96 blocks have an offset bolt pattern. Does anyone know of a starter with an offset bolt pattern that works with a 12 3/4 inch flywheel. Thanks

:welcome: to iboats

Your original engine used either flywheel, both use same flywheel cover for 14 and 12 3/4 inch wheels.

Your 96 motors can only use the 14 inch flywheel and starter. Tell the guys you bought the motor from that the starter bolts to the engine and cannot use the 12 3/4 designed starter

Ayuh,.... You were sold the Wrong blocks,..... Many blocks have both starter patterns drilled, 'n tapped,.....

You either need to go to 14" flywheels, or swap to blocks drilled for the 12" flywheel starters,....

There are No adapters to do what ya wanta do,....

'n Btw, if yer '83 uses the crankshaft mounted Couplers, ya gotta get the Retro-fir Couplers,....
I believe iboats sells 'em, through Sierra,....
