Ok, I am in the process of refinishing my outdrive. Currently i separated the lower from the upper halves, sanded it down and primered it with self etching primer. While having it apart I notice that the shaft that extends up into the upper unit, you can pull out on it just slightly and be able to move it up & down just a tad bit but when you push in on the shaft there is no play in it. Is this normal or is there a bearing in there that needs to be replaced?

Yes that is normal, the setting is accomplished by a feeler gauge inserted with the front and measured with a shim special tool. The shaft when installed does not move up under normal unworn conditions

Ok thanks. I guess I'll move onto reassembling them back together and performing the pressure test on her before I paint her.

I ordered a seal kit for it but I didn't receive the 2 rubber O-rings that go around the openings between the upper & lower halves. Does anyone know where I can obtain them?

Need
O-ring 25-455771 item 3A
Quad ring either 26-36556 (.500 outside diameter) or 26-805344 (.625 outside diameter) item 4
O-ring 25-20826 item 18

You can either google each part placing "Mercruiser" on front of the part number. or go here and order from this site which has the breakdown
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...&inbr=952&bnbr=90&bdesc=GEAR+HOUSING(BRAVO+I)

Also note the O-rings are in packs of 10 for items 3 and 4
