Good evening , I have purchased a 1992 Monteray 189 SLR, The motor in this boat was a 4.3 L V6. Lost the motor over a very bad winter. Bought a 1989 Mercruiser 5.0 305 this summer. Just got the motor in about a month ago and can not figure out where the trim sender plugs in on this new motor. On the 4.3 the connection was starboard side toward the back but not seeing it on this motor. Any ideas on the color of the wires the trim sender plugs into or maybe the location. Thank you in advance.

There were a few designs back then so it will depend on what color of wires you have and their location.

To make the gauge work, you'll be looking for either a brown/white and black wire coming out of the engine harness around the distributor area with bullet connectors or wires with either brown or purple wire "Sleeves" connected to a terminal box that utilizes terminal rings that "may have" bullet connectors coming off of them as well. The terminal box may be more at the front of the engine next to the 50 amp circuit breaker like seen in the first link page 2A-6 and 7.

The next two links should help with connecting the trim up limit switch depending on trim pump model you have.

Your 1992 model should have been a slightly different design/location then the 1989 engine models.

Hope it all works out good for you, good luck.:)
