Verifying Merc 5.7 liter Serial Number

I have a 1982 Mako 236 with a Merc 5.7 Liter 260hp Enigne.
The id plate is as followed.

0624015 with the letter L under neath the numbers.

Can someone please tell me what year this engine is.

Is the serial number actually suppose to be 0L624015 because that is the only way anything for parts come up.

It's not the 0L number, that's for a 1998 engine. Here is a link which will have all the parts for your engine (1982 to 1986)

Have you looked down by the starter for a serial number? Normally there is one down there.
