Pertronic Ignitor and Rotor question

I have a 1987 Renken with a 470. Just upgrade to a Pertronic Ignitor. When I put the magnet onto the shaft, it was seated as far down as possible. To me it seemed like the magnate did not leave enough room for the rotor to sit as far down as before. The engine started right up and died about one minute later when the rotor got caught on the inside of the cap. Has anyone had to modify their rotors to accommodate for the magnate? Or used a different rotor? Thanks.

Mine was drop in. Have you checked to make sure the part number is correct?

When I added the pertronix kit, I had to "coax" the magnet onto the distributor shaft. Just by hand, it didn't seat properly all the way down on the shaft, and I couldn't get the rotor back on at all. I gently tapped it into a full seat with a long socket. Problem solved.
