I think that's it -- the set screw has a pin that goes through the shaft. The slot in the the top of the shaft is for aligning the holes. The shaft rides in brass bushings. the lower bushing has a seal that help keep the shift cable dry.

Are you able to jiggle the shaft & check the movement. The reason I ask is that while its not a bad idea to replace these -- it may not be the cause of your shift interrupt problem.



A few related thoughts

Did anyone check the condition of the interrupt roller switch ? Not bent etc.

The merc cables are better than some of the aftermarket ones.

Since the drive passed a pressure test, is it possible that the 'oil' in the bellows was just water mixed with grease from the ujoint and gimbal bearing? It can look similar but won't smell like gear lube.
