I think that's it -- the set screw has a pin that goes through the shaft. The slot in the the top of the shaft is for aligning the holes. The shaft rides in brass bushings. the lower bushing has a seal that help keep the shift cable dry.
Are you able to jiggle the shaft & check the movement. The reason I ask is that while its not a bad idea to replace these -- it may not be the cause of your shift interrupt problem.
A few related thoughts
Did anyone check the condition of the interrupt roller switch ? Not bent etc.
The merc cables are better than some of the aftermarket ones.
