shift cable adjustment

Last season I had problems shifting from forward to neutral to reverse.
My SternDrive is not install on the boat yet and want to verify both Lower and Upper Shift Cables adjustements.
And replaced them if needed.
Is it possible to check all cables adjustments, fonctionning properly without the drive install ?
I do have adjustments procedure, but it requires to turn the prop !!

You really can't adjust the cables without the drive installed... like you mentioned, you have to put the drive in forward gear to adjust the cable...... and...... if you have to replace the lower shift cable the drive has to come off. :facepalm:

How old is the lower cable?

The only shift cable test you can do without the drive is remove the black plastic sleeve from the shift plate, grease the thumb and index finger, grasp black plastic gently and move it in and out. There should be almost no resistance doing this. If there is you need a new lower shift cable.

Eric 3.7LX Alpha 1, I bought the boat last season only. I have no Idea if the Cable was changed (it's a 1989)
I will do the test Bt Doctur and see how the cable moves.
