Hello All. I have a question for the group regarding replacing the original fuel pump on my 250 (4.1) inline 6 motor.
Looking online, I am finding many of these marine pumps with various part numbers depending on the supplier. For a few of these marine suppliers, their part number also includes "60032" which coincides with the part number used by the fuel pump manufacturer, Airtex. Airtex's website lists this exact part number as a marine fuel pump which is prescribed for a number of GM engines including the 250 (4.1). Yes, it has the lower bowl connection in case of diaphragm rupture.

Curiously, these pumps carrying the 60032 part number can be found new on the net from as little as $50.00 to well over $200.00 for what seems to be the exact same pump.

The question is: if they are all made by Airtex and carry the same part number, is there a problem going with the $50 dollar unit over the $200+ unit?

Thanks.

Howdy Russ
Airtex makes the mechanical fule pumps for Merc. I buy the Airtex fuel pumps for both my boats. In fact if you compare the pumps side by side the only difference is the paint.

Another option is to rebuild your old pump. They still sell the diaphragm kit for that pump. It is part number 49089. Look around and you can pick up a kit for around $30. I just rebuilt mine and it works great.

As long as the $50 unit really is a marine pump, no problem at all....

Does this fit pretty well all of these fuel pumps?
I have a 74 or 75 165HP inline 6.
Should this fit it?

Here is a photo of the fuel pump from Airtex's site:

It certainly looks like a marine pump, and they claim it is.

The things that make it 'Marine' are mostly internal, and can't see seen....

Or you could just use this one (and support the people getting all this free information to you)... :D ;)

Chris. I have purchased parts from our sponsor here on iboats and agree that we do need to support the forums. I will consider the parts link. I have also ordered a marine diaphragm kit out of curiosity to see if that is a viable solution.
Thanks.

I went to my local autoparts store (O'Reilly Auto Parts) and ordered the Airtex 60032 for my 165 IL6. $97.99 plus tax and it is the marine fuel pump. They had it for me in 2 days.
