I just purchased a 2003 baja with a 5.0 mercruiser. Boat seems to run perfect but the oil pressure gauge is staying maxed out from the time the motor starts.any suggestions

That happened to me on an old corvette once. WHen the sender dies, it goes to a max reading. I replaced the sender and it was solved.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... When the motor Starts, or when ya turn the key On,..??

The sender oughta be down low, portside of the block, near the oil filter housin' boss,...
Oughta be a brown/ blue wire to it,...

When I turn the key on the gauge is still down but when it starts the gauge pegs out

Re: Oil pressure gauge staying pegged out

yes, that's what it will do. test with a mechanical gauge screwed in place of the sender. Only other explanation is a stuck pressure relief valve in the oil pump, but you would soon see that from a ruptured oil filter or blown out filter rubber gasket.
