First off, I am a novice boat owner. This is my first...

I just bought a 1979 Sea Ray with a Mercruiser 165 (#5390578, Alpha?). I've gone through it pretty good in terms of basic maintenance and adjustments. The only thing I have left to conquer is a Shift Interrupt Switch.

The wires have been cut to the switch and I am not sure what color goes where. I've found this link:

http://forums.iboats.com/mercruiser...-how-shift-interrupt-system-works-288089.html

but it does not specify wire colors.

Thanks in advance!

Take your ohm meter out and see where the wires go. On the switch, one of the wires will go to ground.... the other wire will go to the "-" side of the coil.

Welcome aboard!

The wires on the switch itself are not polarized. So the switch can be hooked up either way around.
