Hey guys, I have a 97 Regal 176 boat, with a Mercruiser 3.0l engine. Can you tell me what most likley is the problem with a non working temp gauge. Or what you guys most commonly see wrong, before I go just go randomly replacing parts.
Thanks.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.. The gauge needs to see 12v, at it's (+) terminal,...

If so, unhook the wire on the sender, 'n ground it out, the gauge should Peg, Full Hot,...
If it don't, check for a solid Ground at the t-stat housin',...
If there's solid Ground, replace the sender,...

The use of thread Tape on the sender, won't allow it to work, No ground,...
If the T-stat was changed, 'n a gasket, without the brass rivet was used, again, No ground,...

Is there any harm in running the boat without the tstat working or temp gauge for that fact? Will the overtemp alarm still go off it over heating occurs? Or, is that part of the temp sending unit?

Ayuh,.... I guess that depends on Why the temp gauge ain't workin',...

The alarm switch is right next to the temp sender, in the t-stat housin',...
If it were a Bad ground, Neither will work,...
The t-stat, might be just fine,...
