I have a 1994 sea ray with a 5.0 mercrusier and alpha 1 gen 2 outdrive. When i put it on the trailer yesterday from a days use and pulled the drain plug water followed with green outdrive oil came out. The reservior was about 1/3 full when i started and almost full now and looked like it had overflowed and run into the bilge. When i tilted the bottle i didnt see any water in the bottom or any milky oil. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Pull the drain plug on the drive. Oil doesn't reproduce.

And after draining the oil and checking for water-in-oil, do a pressure test of the drive. Sounds like a water leak into the drive somewhere.

i drained some oil out of the lower unit and a little bit a milky oil came out followed by solid gear oil...and i didnt drain much at all. Could it be possible the cap on the reservoir is pluged and sucking oil back into it? but then not draining back into the drive when it cools down to the consistancy of molasses?

That milky oil is oil and water mixed. Something had to replace the oil. Do a pressure test on the drive.

I took the reservoir off and drained it. It had sludge in the bottom. So i cleaned that all out. Then i drained the lower unit which had no milky oil in it and noticed the hose from the reservoir to the unit was pluged when i tried to blow through it. Cleared it out with the air compressor. Suppose this could have been the problem. I need to find a pump to get oil back in the unit and then i can try it out.

Most Walmarts sell the pump along with the High Performance Geal Oil you'll need if your marine store isn't close.
