Where does the gimbal bearing grease seal housing go??? I pulled the motor and outdrive on my 1976 165hp mercruiser to change the engine coupler as the motor shifted on its motor mounts and worn out the coupler. my question is where exactly does the seal go and which direction. Any help would be appreciated...

PS. i baught the coupler and alignment tool and they said people who normally buy those items also buy the seal. so i baught it but dont know where it goes. I pulled everything and dont see a seal anywhere. is it possible that the seal is so caked with grease either in the hole coming from back of boat or the hole coming from the motor behind the bell housing or behind the couplers spot...

Re: Gimbal bearing grease seal

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... The seal lives just ahead of the gimbel bearin', 'n just aft of the coupler,...

Most of Us don't bother puttin' 'em back in,...
It just holds abit of purged grease from the gimbel bearin' in the bellows, insteada leakin' into the motor box,...
