Simple Question.. Thermostat location????

I have A mercruiser 3.7 165 i/o s/n B516408 I bought this off a dirty seller and have done soooo much to it. i now hit it running and going into gear and shifting properly, but it overheats. I pulled all hoses to the heat exchanger and cannot locate a thermostat anywhere. Where should the thermostat be so I can put one in and see if that solves my issue.

Have you changed your impeller in the outdrive? If not that is the first thing you need to do. The thermostat is one of the less likely things to go wrong, behind impeller and restricted water flow through the exchanger.

Here is your manual: Page 248 Boatinfo - Mercruiser Service Manual nr. 8 - 1985-1989 - Mercury Marine 4 Cylinder Engines here is your parts list: http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...=EXHAUST+MANIFOLD+AND+EXHAUST+ELBOW(ALUMINUM) You should have an aluminum manifold, but check with a magnet.
