2006 4.3 Mercruiser Oil Pressure Guage Sticking? (No Pressure under way)

I have performed the test on the oil pressure gauge by doing the following.
With connector attached, jumped the Lt Blu wire to Ground.
When connected gauge jumps to max of 80 psi
When the jumper is removed, the gauge does not return to zero.
Gauge stops randomly at maybe 40, then 20, then something else.

Is there a way to force zero by connecting wires?

Note, when I am running the engine or underway, guage reads zero or thereabouts.

Where the gauge lands when you shut the power off means nothing. If the engine is off and the key is on and it's not going to 0, then the sender is probably bad.

Thanks for the quick reply Don S.

Yes, the key was on during this test and it remained 'hung'.

I am having difficulties accessing the sending unit, but would hope I could perform a test at the gauge with the light blue wire. I'll have to see where the sending unit is hidden.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... It'll either be behind/ beside the distributor, or down Low, portside, under the manifold, midway along the near bottom of the block, just forward of the oil filter, or remote filter adapter,..

This is it. I think! It is way under the manifold. Can't be seen,.. I was able to get my hand in there and feel around. I compared the cylinder object with the rubber boot and wire on the forward side.

Sure hope I don't have to replace it. It probably means pulling the engine if I'm not lucky enough to find a way to it.

New Test.
Lt Blu wire from gauge to engine plug (harness side) is continuous.

Ohm Meter from engine plug (engine side) to ground is open.

I think it should read somewhere around 220 - 252 ohms. but it is open.
Sure wish I could get a probe under the boot on the pressure sensor.

I can't start the engine right now. Need the hull boot for cooling water. (doesn't use the outdrive inlets)
