Hello,

I have a 1980 Mercruiser 228 with log-style manifolds.

I am having some cooling issues with the engine and it came to my attention that I may be using the wrong kind of block off plate at the exhaust elbow. The current block off plate is covering all of the "slits" around the square hole. The manifold "slits" are also being covered by this plate.

Example of the "slits" around the hole:

My question is - what type of plate & gasket should I be using to connect these? It doesn't make sense to me that all of the slits are plugged by the block-off plate.

They are correct for your type of therm housing. you should have 2 hoses going to the manifold and 1 hose going to the riser.
