I have a 1982 Mark Twain V-Sonic 16/9 with an inline 4 cyclinder 120hp mercruiser engine with a MC-1 outdrive. Bought the boat thinking all it needed was a gimbal bearing. Replaced bearing today started the engine up, put it in drive & a burnt rubber smell & white smoke came from the engine compartment. Propeller does not turn while engine is running. While engine is off you can turn prop one way in forward & the reverse way when shifted to reverse. I am thinking it is the engine coupler. I checked alignment after installing the bearing but maybe something was off. Anyone have any advice or tips? Am trying to get the boat out for a riverfront concert on the 3rd.
