Hello I have a 1998 mercruiser alpha drive 4.3 liter carburated my fuel pump went out and a new one is $300 and they have to order it. Is there a chance a local parts store can cross reference the little electric pump for my motor?

That was my concern that automotive pumps are located in the tank. This looks like a small generic pump.

I replaced mine with a generic electric fuel pump, but only so I could finish my week of fishing. I ordered the proper pump when I got home.
make sure the pump is designed for carbs, and use rubber fuel line to connect it, without cutting your metal lines.. ensure no leaks, then install correct pump when able.
pump should be about 6-8psi max
